a horror concept album by Ghoul Talk
Delightfully disturbing, ferociously heartfelt, and piercingly poetic, Ghoul Talk's long-anticipated horror concept album "I Want to Consume" is a ravenous exploration of the rage, devotion, grief, and euphoria of the feminine experience.
Part melodic powerhouse, part skillfully dynamic storyteller, Ghoul Talk (Rachel King) adeptly shifts from menacingly foreboding riot grrrl grunge ("Veils" "I Just Like to Watch") to fierce, electrifying revenge pop ("Bleed Yrslf Dry"). Amidst the unbridled chaos and vocal acrobatics, "I Want to Consume" delivers lyricism that is strikingly outspoken, nostalgically melancholic, and at times surprisingly playful, with "Crawl Space" and "Litha" as narratively-rich lyrical standouts. The six-song release features the undeniably catchy, triumphant synth pop anthem "I Thank God I Do Not Get What I Want," ambitiously recorded with a live 20-piece orchestra.
Accompanied by an original horror film shot on a Camano Island alpaca farm, "I Want to Consume" is poised to be one of Seattle's most unexpectedly unique 2024 releases.
